One-Europe Working Group

"Journalism largely consist of saying 'Lord Jones Dead' to people who never knew Lord Jones was alive"
- G.K. Chesterton, The Wisdom of Father Brown -

...about the OneEurope Magazine

What is democracy without an independent press? What were the students in Europe without an international discussion platform, a magazine in which people from different nations can express their viewpoints on social, political and cultural themes?

This magazine, published three times a year, is a Europeanly-spread independent publication held in both the official AEGEE languages English and French (partially) and serves to a small extent as a forum for the results of AEGEE work all across Europe.

The OneEurope Working Group

The working group (WG) relies to a good extent upon the sources of the network of AEGEE , that is students and young professionals from all over Europe. Today the One Europe Working Group contsists of four LOCALS (so called OEL's) in Aachen, Berlin, Bonn and Göttingen in which about 100 OEM members are working. The WG decides upon the content and produces each edition, for which it has regular meetings in the region Aachen - Berlin - Bonn - Göttingen. Students from Portugal to Russia, from Finland to Turkey, acting as correspondents and remote editors of the OneEurope WG, are providing the journal with contributions of their own, expert opinions or interviews with personalities of public life.

This form of international cooperation is the basis for the enormous variety of viewpoints, the diversity of opinions in todays' Europe thus distinguishing the OneEurope magazine from local or national students' publications. The OneEurope Magazine is financed by advertising, public fonds and subscriptions.

OneEurope Magazine itself

...the special characteristic of the OneEurope Magazine is its separation into a number of sections: Periscope, Country Special, Crossroads, Career, Education, Culture&Science, News and Backstage.

  • read the latest issue!
  • all issues
  • selected articles
  • In the Periscope section, for instance, one special topic is looked upon from different points of view. This thematical focus is edited with the support of professionals, such as scientists, politicians or enterprise representatives.

Career section has already been created. Here you can find all you need to know about the job possibilities in Europe (but not only there...), hot tips about the hot new jobs, hot career tips, interviews and descriptions of the recriutment programmes. Additionally we will put useful addresses and Internet-Sites into the section.

With the Education section the OEM particularly reports about the situation of higher education in Europe. Mobility programmes, curricula and the situation of students regularly cover the articles' subjects next to 'post-university' information for students. Particular interest is paid to the European (or international) dimension of higher education.

Finally, the Backstage section informs about the concrete results of AEGEE activities as well as congresses, seminars, case-studies and the like.

Local AEGEE bulletins are welcome to reprint selected articles without special permission - anyway, we would be glad to receive a short note from you on this. Pictures, maps and graphics were often omitted in the texts presented on WWW and FTP
